Tomoyo Daidouji (大道寺知世) is a fictional character created by CLAMP and appears in their series Cardcaptor Sakura and Tsubasa: RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE.

She is Sakura's best friend, school mate, and second cousin. Tomoyo loves filming Sakura and is always gushing about how cute she is. She seems wiser beyond her years and always has a lending ear to her friends. In Tsubasa, Tomoyo is the princess of Nihon Country, Kurogane's home world. She is the one who sent Kurogane to the Dimensional Witch with a curse that if he killed needlessly, he would be weakened.

AppearanceEdit

In Cardcaptor Sakura, Tomoyo is appeared to be a normal school girl. Despite her age, Tomoyo is a perfect example of a lady-like personality. She features an innocent face with a gentle heart for her friends. She always holds a videocam specially for her best friend, Kinomoto, Sakura but later on found interest on Sakura and Syaoran's 'love story'. In Tsubasa, she is Kurogane's master. In the first few episodes, she wears a traditional, kimono-styled dress.

PersonalityEdit

Tomoyo is an incredibly kind and sweet girl, who is nice to everyone around her and cares for people she is close to, especially Sakura. She likes Sakura more than a friend, but she helps Syaoran confess his feelings to Sakura, possibly believing that he is the one who will make her the happiest. Whenever someone is troubled about something, she is willing to listen and give them good advice. She is wise, living up to her name (Daidouji = wise era), and you can always count on her whenever you need help.

Powers and AbilitiesEdit

Tomoyo has no powers or abilities in CCS, but in TRC, she does.

BackgroundEdit

StoryEdit

Cardcaptor SakuraEdit

Tomoyo is Sakura Kinomoto's cousin and closest friend. She constantly encourages and approves of nearly everything Sakura chooses to do, and frequently uses her video camera to record Sakura, both at school and outside.

When Sakura finds the Book of Clow and Cerberus, Tomoyo immediately appoints herself in charge of giving Sakura fashionable clothes for each "card capture". As the daughter of a wealthy fashion designer, Tomoyo appears to have a natural talent for design and fashion herself. Despite this, Tomoyo is relatively modest about her abilitites, even her singing talent, which many in their school regard as exceptional.

Tomoyo's voice, in fact, makes her the target of more than one Clow Card, which use her almost as a vessel. Each time, however, Sakura successfully captures the Card and frees Tomoyo, and is immediately thanked by Tomoyo, who always expected that Sakura would free her. Tomoyo never doubts or worries about whether Sakura will succeed--she only expects it to be a matter of time.

Tomoyo also appears to have a huge crush on Sakura, but she doesn't act on it. Instead, while Sakura first focuses on Yukito Tsukshiro, Tomoyo is very supportive. She also is very supportive later, when she feels that both Li Syaoran and Eriol Hiiragizwa have feelings for Sakura, although she is slightly more in favor of Syaoran's developing relationship with Sakura.

Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card ArcEdit

Tsubasa: RESERVoir CHRoNiCLEEdit

The first time we see Tomoyo in the Tsubasa story, she is the liege lord of Kurogane in what looks like Imperial Japan. This Tomoyo is the younger sister of Amaratesu, the Empress of Japan, but she also was the one to successfully break Kurogane free from a rage in which he blindlly attacked not only hundreds of demons, but also a number of Amaratesu's strongest warriors. Tomoyo's kindness allowed Kurogane to grieve, and he pledged his lifelong service to her in return.

However, Kurogane was determined to be stronger, and seemed to be losing much of his ability to empathize and relate to others. Tomoyo told him that she would place a curse on him, and until he learned the meaning of true strength, he could not return to Japan. She then sent him to the Inter-Dimensional Witch, known as Yuuko Ichihara.

A number of times, as the five travellers went from world to world through different times, Kurogane found himself facing yet another girl who not only looked exactly like his Princess, but also shared her name and personality. The first was Tomoyo Daidouji on Piffle World, a wealthy business woman who was holding a kind of race with one of Princess Sakura's feathers as the prize. Later, this Tomoyo reveals that the Princess Tomoyo of Kurogane's world had contacted her in a dream, and had told her that this magical feather would arrive, and what to do when it did. When he first sees her, however, kurogane believes that Tomoyo Daidouji of Piffle World is his liege-lord, and is upset when she denies it. This Tomoyo also develops a big crush on Princess Sakura, very like the one that Tomoyo Daidouji in Card Captor Sakura had for Sakura Kinomoto.

After Kurogane sacrificed his left arm to rescue Fai D Flourite from the trap on Ceresu, he awakens to find himself on his own world at last, having been bandaged and treated by Princess Tomoyo.  She asks whether he learned about true strength, and he accepts that he needed the lesson.  Before he leaves his home world again, due to the nature of their journey, he re-takes his vows of service to Tomoyo, using his real name, which only the two of them know.

Tomoyo in Tsubasa is a dreamseer, although she sacrifices this ability as the price to bring Kurogane and his companions to her world after the events on Ceresu.  Despite this, both she and Kurogane seem assured that they will reunite at some point.

RelationshipsEdit

Sakura KinomotoEdit

She is her bestfriend. Whenever Sakura has a problem, she proves to be a loyal friend to her and will hear any of her consents. She also approves of her relationship with Syaoran and finds it amusing of Sakura's naivety. She was the first person to know of Sakura's magical ability to capture and use Clow Cards. She always makes Sakura new dresses whenever she attends on capturing Clow Cards.

Syaoran LiEdit

She adores Syaoran's feelings for Sakura. She showingly cheers on Syaoran whenever he gets a chance to talk with Sakura. Even though Sakura is first seen to be naive, she believed that she has feelings for her, too, but not in Syaoran's way at first. She is often seen teasing Syaoran. One example is when they saw Eriol flirting (in Syaoran's thought) with Sakura below a tree.

Meiling LiEdit

A good friend of hers. She understands Meiling's distress and openly talks to her.

KuroganeEdit

In Tsubasa, he is shown to be Kurogane's master. She put a seal on Kurogane's forehead to prevent him from killing anyone.

Eriol HiragizawaEdit

Even though it is not shown, Tomoyo also cares about him. IN an episode, she is worried about Eriol's sudden absence. It is hinted that they could have an interest in each other, although this has little to substantiate it. They talk occasionally in a friendly manner, and Eriol seems reluctant to do anything that might harm her.
